…An Experimental Time/Cure

Ever find yourself in one of those inexplicable funks??  I sure did last night and I’ve discovered a marvelous remedy for those of you out there, like me, that are children of that certain era that allows us to remember life before this internet and cell phone thing. I treated myself to a glimpse back to that magical, experimental time of my youth known today as the 90’s!  Ah, yes; the 90’s; when people of the world would seemingly try anything at least once.  The music was different, the clothes were…interesting, and the movies (well at least 82% of them) were honestly kind of shite!!  Now before you go get all defensive; yes, we got great pictures like Batman Returns, Toy Story, Silence of the Lambs, and Forrest Gump. And yes, this is when Tarantino emerged and took the world by storm.

Sinbad!!

Sinbad!!

However, let us not forget that the 90’s also brought us such classics as Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (you bet your bottom dollar that’s a movie!!), Kazaam-starring Shaq, and Surf Ninjas! But last night my pick me up came from the classic comedy stylings of Sinbad in Houseguest from 1995.  Sinbad plays a slacker, from the ‘streets’, with a dream that poses as on old friend to Phil Hartman to escape the heat from the mob. True, the plot is paper-thin and the flick is predictable and just so gloriously 90’s; but it turned out to be exactly what I needed to lift my spirits. So I say to you, next time modern life’s got you down, why not take a trip in the way-back machine and enjoy a gem from the 90’s….just avoid Double Dragon at ALL COSTS!!!

a matter of personal interest

In case you hadn’t jumped onto the bandwagon during that special time when comic book movies were in that silver, pre-Avengers, pre-Dark Knight age, then you may have missed a few gems from ‘back in the day’.  Namely I speak of Sin City!! Based on the amazing Frank Miller series and directed by renaissance man Robert Rodriguez, this flick changed the game for this genre before some of you even knew the game was being played.  The news that he has decide to return, with much of the original cast, to the material is exciting in of itself (yay, more Rosario!!) and this little teasing pic of what’s to come makes it that much more exciting!! Thank the make for Twitter that allows one to follow the genius of aRobert Rodriguez as well as feeling a connection to fit and talented birds I’d never have a shot at like Tricia Helfer!! But, I digress, @Rodriguez tweeted the Ridiculously Awesome pic below that makes me wanna pop in that Sin City dvd and watch that joint…..TONYGHT!!!!!

Looking Better There, Tin Head!!

Until recently, I’ve been more excited about the new Star Trek flick than Iron Man 3.  This is a very surreal statement for me as I am known as a supreme Star Wars fan (which in geek terms means I’m not even supposed to like Star Trek) and, thus far, the Iron Man series has been the best Marvel Studios has had to offer, which is significant when considering how unsuspectingly good Thor is! When the first trailer for Iron Man 3 finally hit; I found it with a very decidedly lukewarm reaction. I felt slightly underwhelmed by it and found myself wondering where Marvel Studios could go after their juggernaut hit The Avengers.  Plus, Star Trek: Into Darkness just looks plain amaze-balls; and a huge part of that is, I think, due to the contribution from one Benedict Cumberbatch (the most Ridiculously Awesome British name) who is blowing up right now and has the chops to back his rising star up. Disbelief have you?? Go watch him in Sherlock RIGHT NOW and prove us otherwise!!

But I digress, after not watching much of the “Big Game” but luckily catching the Iron Man 3 spot, I must say that things are beginning to look more inciting when concerning the adventures of Tony Stark. Yet again, one must be constantly aware, when in this specific position.  Will this be another X3/Spider-Man 3 incident?? One of course hopes not, but we cannot be too careful. Now check out the two spots below and prepare to salivate!!
