Ladies and gets, we here are what you call geeks. And as such the sci-fi and fantasy based things that we show more interest in than the ‘norms’ of the world, we are also intensely passionate about. With that passion comes a profound respect for those that lend their talents to our passions and we always jump at the chance to meet these people and thank them for giving us all this ‘made up nonsense’. Recently I was able to make a life-long wish come true. I got the chance to meet someone who I had hitherto only seen/heard on TV and the internet and had often admired their work on Saturday mornings. Through the luck of the Force, and a little help from one of our loyal readers, I had the unique opportunity and privilege to meet and hang out with the voice of Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars the Clone Wars, the lovely Ms. Ashley Eckstein. Read the riveting tale of my most excellent adventure below!!
The RAMAB Toy Story celebration is at an end. This trilogy has ended in a most epic fashion by providing on the most heartfelt and entry in its cannon. This flick truly represents the ending of an era for those of us they grew up much like Andy and had the privilege of growing up with him and the characters of Toy Story. And although we’ve been taken to task by some of our loyal readers out there for being behind the ball, I humbly disagree. I think it’s important to, now and again, look back and appreciate the great films we’ve experienced so that we can more aptly recognize and call out the fodder like Oz: The Greatly Stupid, The Host, Beautiful Creatures, and Catwoman…just to name a few. Yes, it’s healthy to go back and say, “hey, you know what, that WAS a good movie!” and this is totally the case with the Toy Story franchise. Also, just a thought, its nice to think back to that simpler time in life when all we needed were our toys and our imaginations and the world was ours. Thus the reason behind this little celebration, so go on, take a look at the Toy Story 3 review and let the discussing and reminiscing begin.
That’s right! With Ridiculously Awesome and clever picture-title word association like that, only one thing could be the subject matter of this post. I realize that with all this Star Trek talk it’s starting to sound as if I’m turning my back on my Star Wars loyalties, but I assure you they are definitely all still there. It’s just
that this new Trek franchise really works, but with good ole J.J. heading up the new Star Wars flick things are definitely looking up for the Sci-Fi junkie inside of me.
Speaking of looking up, next month is gonna be filled with delicious geekiness and, as the title dictates, I am ready to boldly propel myself into next month for the line up of craziness that awaits me.
First off is Iron Man 3 landing on May 3. Historically, these Iron Man flicks have left me dangerously close to hyperventilating by the time they are over and I expect no different from the third installment. The trailers have all looked really fun, especially the latest one (showing here), and for some strange reason I’m excited to see some Mandarin. Oh! And the Iron Patriot suit is bad ass!!
Then there’s the next day. Which to the ‘non-initiated’ is just May 4th, the day before Cinco De Mayo. And because I know just how important Cinco De Mayo is to some people, what could be so important about the 4th of May?!? Only that it’s Star Wars day!!! Of course, to the ‘normies’ out there, Star Wars day is about as lame as lame can get; but to the hardcore, self-initiated grey-side Jedi, such as myself, this is a most important day indeed. And with any luck, the RAMAB will be celebrating the special occasion with full enthusiasm.
And if those two monumental events weren’t enough, we get a full week of recovery (so you can lick your Cinco De Mayo wounds) before Abrams drops his latest load on us: Star Trek Into Darkness. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s quite treasonous the amount of excitement I have for this flick. Being such a stout Star Wars devotee, I shouldn’t have this much interest or anticipation for the ‘other side’. Nevertheless, J.J. has done his job well and I am on board for the continued adventures of the starship Enterprise and its crew!!
Ok, so there are only really three things on the horizon for the upcoming month; and, true enough, one of them barely counts. (as I roll a single tear for Star Wars day like an elder Native American seeing what we’ve done to the land) But for the aspiring Sci-Fi nut within me, these things are pretty huge. And hopefully when all is said and done, I will finally feel free to come out of the closet with my new-found Trekkness….
Because we can, and who doesn’t love them, today we will kick off a RAMAB celebration and marathon of reviews for the classic CG flick, Toy Story! This seminal classic from Pixar jumpstarted the CG film frenzy that has given us the likes of Shrek, Horton Hears A Who, and How To Train Your Dragon. So, to celebrate the nigh 20 year anniversary (yep, it’s been that long) of this great franchise, the RAMAB will bring to you great people reviews for Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Toy Story 3. So if you’ve somehow missed these along the way or want to be reminded just how great these flicks are, click the like above to read the review and keep checking back here for the reviews of these great films to roll in. And remember to check Our Takes page for more reviews!!
So, here’s a little blurb about some of the things going on around the old Tinsletown!! First off: there is a trailer out now for The Wolverine which looks just as wildly mediocre and underwhelming as its predecessor did!
There’s also the trailer for Kick Ass 2 which looks pretty promising and more Chloe Grace is always a good thing!! But be warned, below is the red band trailer because we here at RAMAB are HARDCORE!
And finally; there seems to be some sort of series coming to television based on the early days of Hannibal Lecter as played by that guy from Casino Royale but……I dunno; I just don’t know
